Call for comment on cross-linked polyester resins as a processing aid

Published

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is calling for comment on an application to permit the use of cross-linked polyester resins as a processing aid.

The application seeks approval to use cross-linked polyester resins in the production of wine, sparkling wine and fortified wine in Australia. The resins act as adsorbent agents during processing and do not have any function in the final wine.

Cross-linked polyester resins include molecularly-imprinted adsorbent resins which are designed to selectively bind and remove specific molecules from wine during processing, including compounds associated with smoke taint.

Our safety assessment found no public health or safety concerns associated with the use of cross-linked polyester resins for this purpose.

To have your say on this application, visit the FSANZ Consultation Hub. Submissions close at 11.59pm (Canberra time) on 24 February 2026.

What happens to my feedback?

FSANZ will consider all feedback received through this submission process before deciding on whether to approve the application.

Submissions will be published to our website as soon as possible at the end of the public comment period.
