What’s in the latest release?
The 2026 NPC dataset includes data for 1,500 foods. This is the first complete dataset update since 2011. It includes new data for many foods and food additives for which permissions have been added to the Food Standards Code (the Code).
Foods in the NPC
The term ‘food’ refers to all foods, beverages and ingredients in the NPC and focuses on common foods which can be used as ingredients when creating an NIP.

Nutrients in the NPC
The NPC can be used to create an NIP which includes values for the seven mandatory components required by the Food Standards Code.

Sources of nutrient data
The 2026 NPC dataset includes nutrient data mostly from FSANZ's food composition databases: The Australian Food Composition Database (AFCD) and AUSNUT. The remaining data comes from research partners who have provided their data for use in the NPC dataset, or values calculated for food additives permitted in the Code.
