Strong foundations, future ready: Celebrating 30 years of joint food systems

On 17 June 2026, more than 250 participants joined us in-person and online at Queensland Parliament in Brisbane for the FSANZ Stakeholder Forum, celebrating 30 years of the joint Australia–New Zealand food standards system. Focused on Strong foundations, future ready, the forum brought together voices from public health, consumer groups, academia, government and industry to reflect on the system’s evolution and explore what lies ahead.

Presentations and panel discussions explored the evolution of the joint food standards system over the past 3 decades, the role of trust in maintaining confidence in food regulation and the opportunities and challenges shaping the future of the bi-national system. 

The forum brought together a wide range of perspectives and experiences and was a great opportunity for stakeholders to share diverse viewpoints. Discussions reflected a shared commitment to maintaining a strong, trusted and effective food regulatory system, exchange ideas and consider how the system can continue to evolve to meet future challenges.

Thank you to all speakers, panellists, moderators and attendees for contributing to such an engaging and insightful forum. The discussions reinforced that collaboration has been central to the system’s success over the past 30 years and will remain essential into the future.
