New guidance and an online calculator are now available to help businesses get ready for upcoming energy labelling requirements for alcoholic beverages.
The resources support implementation of requirements developed under Proposal P1059 and are designed to make it easier for manufacturers and importers to understand what is required and how to apply the new rules in practice.
From 13 August 2028, labels on alcoholic beverages will need to include energy content per serving, energy content per 100 mL, the number of servings per package, serving size and the number of standard drinks per serving. These changes aim to provide consumers with clear and consistent information and support broader public health initiatives.
The food regulation system guidance explains how the new requirements apply to alcoholic beverages and includes practical information to support compliance with the Food Standards Code.
An online calculator is also available to support implementation. The calculator can help businesses to calculate the average energy content of their products and prepare an energy statement, as required by the Food Standards Code.
Together, the guidance and calculator provide practical tools to support accurate and consistent labelling and help businesses prepare well ahead of the commencement date.
