FSANZ has released AUSNUT 2023, the most up-to-date and comprehensive picture of the nutrient composition of Australian foods.
The dataset supports the 2023 National Nutrition and Physical Activity Study, translating reported food and supplement consumption into detailed nutrient intakes.
AUSNUT 2023 includes data for 3,741 foods and 58 nutrients and other components of interest. It reflects the foods reported in the study’s dietary recall tool, Intake24, and captures the variety of products Australians consume – from everyday staples to new market entrants.
The dataset draws on high-quality analytical data from our food composition programs and stakeholder contributions. Where analysis wasn’t available, nutrient profiles were developed using recipe calculations, label data, imputation and borrowed data from trusted international sources.
AUSNUT 2023 offers a valuable evidence base for food regulatory measures and public health research. It can support product development and reformulation and enables accurate and consistent labelling through the Nutrition Panel Calculator.
