Call for comment on a phosphoinositide phospholipase C processing aid

Published

Phosphoinositide phospholipase C (EC 3.1.4.11) is produced using Bacillus licheniformis that has been genetically modified to carry a gene from another type of bacteria, Pseudomonas species 62186, which enables the production of the enzyme.

The application seeks approval to use phosphoinositide phospholipase C in degumming vegetable fats and oils. This is an important step in the refining process.

Our safety assessment found no public health or safety concerns with the proposed use of the enzyme.
