A1345 - Dextransucrase from Bacillus subtilis (gene donor: Streptococcus salivarius) for use as a processing aid

On 5 August 2026, the FSANZ Board approved changes to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to permit the use of dextransucrase for use as a processing aid, in the production of oligosaccharides and polysaccharides to reduce sucrose content and improve texture in foods containing sucrose and has prepared a draft food regulatory measure.


Consultation and assessment

FSANZ released the public call for submissions in April 2026. Feedback from this consultation, along with our scientific assessment, informed our final decision.
