On 29 April 2026, the FSANZ Board approved changes to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to permit the use of alpha-amylase from Bacillus licheniformis (containing the gene for alpha-amylase from the gene variant ANZ105) as a processing aid. This enzyme is permitted for use in starch processing, to produce starch hydrolysates, and the production of potable alcohol.
Consultation and assessment
FSANZ released the public call for submissions in January 2026. Feedback from this consultation, along with our scientific assessment informed our final decision.
