P1054 - Pure and highly concentrated caffeine products Urgent Proposal P1054 was prepared to amend the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to prohibit the retail sale of pure and highly concentrated caffeine food products. FSANZ prepared the Proposal as an emergency interim response under its urgent legislative provisions following its review and report to Australian Government Ministers in August 2019. The Ministerial Report and the Initial Consideration Report found pure and highly concentrated caffeine food products posed an immediate and acute risk to consumers. Call for comment on food made from an insect-protected GM soybean line Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is calling for comment on an application to permit the sale and use of food derived from a new genetically modified (GM) soybean line.  Soybean line COR23134 has been genetically modified to protect the plant from damage caused by certain butterfly and moth caterpillars.  If approved, food products derived from this soybean, such as oil, milk, flour, meal and protein isolates, may enter the Australian and New Zealand food supply as imported items. Our safety assessment found no potential public health or safety concerns with food derived from this GM soybean. It is as safe as food from non-GM soybean varieties. Second call for comment on the review of permissions for caffeine in food Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is undertaking a second round of public consultation on its review of the addition of caffeine to food.
