2020 Key Foods analytical program In 2020, FSANZ undertook an analytical program to update and expand our food composition data holdings. Fifteen foods were selected for nutrient analysis for which we hold no data, or the data we do hold is out-dated and may no longer reflect the products available for consumption. The nutrients selected to be analysed differed for each food depending on what data was available, the quality of the data, and whether the nutrient was likely to be present in the food. Sampling Eight samples were purchased for each food. Monitoring of trans fatty acids Several pieces of work looking at the levels of trans fatty acids (TFAs) in Australia and New Zealand have been completed. This work is detailed below. Levels of TFAs in imported oils In November 2017 FSANZ and New Zealand Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) provided a report to ministers responsible for food regulation on the level of TFAs in imported oils. The report includes the findings of a detailed assessment of:
- import statistics for vegetable fats and oils including those with potential to contain manufactured TFAs
- a supermarket and online retail survey of TFA levels specified on product labels; and

Risk assessment Risk assessment involves the process of identifying, analysing and characterising a food-related health risk and is one component of the FSANZ risk analysis framework, the other two being risk management and risk communication. Risk assessments estimate the likelihood and severity of an adverse health effect occurring from exposure to a hazard. Assigning foods and dietary supplements nutrients and measures data To be able to estimate food, dietary supplement and nutrient intakes from the 2011-13 Australian Health Survey (AHS), information is needed on the nutrient content of the foods and dietary supplements consumed and how much of a food or dietary supplement a person has eaten. A coding or classification system is also needed to group similar foods and dietary supplements for reporting purposes. 2011-13 AHS and 1995 NNS food classification concordance file This file cross references food groups reported in the 2011-13 Australian Health Survey with food groups reported in the 1995 National Nutrition Survey (NNS). The file was developed to allow users to compare consumption between the two surveys. For each 3 digit group in the 2011-13 AHS classification, the file identifies the corresponding 1995 NNS groups or individual foods. Note that in some cases, a 1995 group has been split between 2011-13 AHS groups.

2013 Specialty bread analytical program
2013 Specialty bread analytical program Background The variety of breads available for consumption in Australia has expanded in recent years and Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) had no analytical data for specialty breads that may now be commonly consumed. Nutrient profiles for specialty breads consumed during the 2011-12 National Nutrition and Physical Activity Survey (NNPAS) component of the 2011-13 Australian Health Survey (AHS) were developed by FSANZ using a recipe approach. In June 2013, FSANZ undertook a small analytical program to collect nutrient data on three newer varieties of bread to use to verify FSANZ's approach for generating nutrient profiles for specialty breads reported as consumed during the NNPAS. Data validation
Data validation The nutrient data in AUSNUT 2011-13 has undergone an extensive data validation process, with portions of the database also undergoing an external peer review process. Internal validation of nutrient data FSANZ undertook a series of internal data validation activities. Some validation activities focused on individual foods and beverages, while other activities focussed on specific nutrients, food categories, recipes, factors and system calculations. Some of the routine validation activities undertaken by FSANZ include checking:
