New Food Standards Code compilation now available We are excited to announce the release of a new compilation of the Food Standards Code. This user-friendly PDF brings together all 80 Standards and 29 Schedules that currently make up the Code into a single, searchable document. Developed in response to stakeholder feedback, this convenient resource makes it easier than ever to navigate and use the Code. The document will be updated whenever a change is gazetted. Call for comment on proposed changes to kava food standard Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is calling for public comment on proposed changes to the food standard regulating kava use. FSANZ has reviewed the kava standard in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code) to support a Federal Government pilot program which will allow commercial importation of kava into Australia to build stronger cultural and economic ties with Pacific Island nations. - When a vitamin or mineral is added to food, the Code outlines requirements relating to the identity of the substance. For example only particular chemical forms of a mineral are able to be used.
- When a chemical form is used it has to be compliant with a relevant 'specification' as listed in the Code.
- Schedule 3 of the Code lists published sources for specifications relating to the identity and purity for the permitted forms of minerals. There are several sources listed. These specifications are internationally accepted
