Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is calling for comment on an application to permit the use of an enzyme as a processing aid.
Alpha-amylase (EC 3.2.1.1) is produced using Bacillus licheniformis containing the gene for an alpha-amylase variant (ANZ105).
The application seeks approval to use alpha-amylase in starch processing and during alcohol production.
Our safety assessment found no public health or safety concerns with the proposed use of the enzyme.
