A1340 - 2'-FL from GM Escherichia coli BL21 (gene donor: Akkermansia muciniphila) for use as a nutritive substance in infant formula products

On 3 June 2026, the FSANZ Board approved changes to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to permit GM Escherichia coli BL21 (gene donor: Akkermansia muciniphila) for the production of 2′-FL for use as a nutritive substance in infant formula products.

Consultation and assessment

FSANZ released the public call for submissions in January 2026. Feedback from this consultation, along with our scientific assessment, informed our final decision.
