A1339 - 2′-FL, 3-FL, LNT, 3′-SL, and 6′-SL from GM Escherichia coli BL21 for use as nutritive substances in infant formula products

On 3 June 2026, the FSANZ Board approved changes to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code to permit the voluntary use of 2′-FL, 3-FL, LNT, 3′-SL, and 6′-SL, alone or in combination, as nutritive substances in infant formula products. The nutritive substance ingredients are derived from various genetically modified Escherichia coli BL21 strains.

Consultation and assessment

FSANZ released the public call for submissions in January 2026. Feedback from this consultation, along with our scientific assessment, informed our final decision.
