Additional brands have been listed in the national poppy seed recall announced yesterday.
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) is coordinating the consumer recall of poppy seeds due to the potential presence of thebaine, a toxic chemical.
The recalled brands of poppy seeds are:
Hoyts Food Manufacturing - Hoyts Poppy Seeds
Gaganis Bros Imported Food Wholesalers - Gaganis Premium Australian Poppy Seed
East West Foods Wholesale - Poppy Seeds
Basfoods International - Royal Fields Poppy Seeds
Eumarrah - Eumarrah Poppy Seeds
If additional products are identified as part of this recall, they will be listed on the FSANZ website here.
Anyone who has consumed the recalled products and experienced unusual and/or severe symptoms should seek immediate medical attention.
Symptoms can include breathing difficulty, breathing more rapidly than normal, muscle spasms and unconsciousness.
State and territory food authorities are investigating the cause of the contamination.
