The purpose of this proposal is to clarify requirements in the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code with respect to claims about carbohydrate content and the components of carbohydrate (such as sugar) in relation to food that contains more than 1.15% alcohol by volume (ABV), including alcoholic beverages.
Work on this proposal was temporarily paused while FSANZ undertook preliminary work on energy labelling of alcoholic beverages. In April 2022, work on P1049 was recommenced to align with work on Proposal P1059 Energy labelling on alcoholic beverages and allow us to consider alignment of any potential alcohol labelling changes.
