Enforcement of the Code
In Australia, the Code is enforced by State and Territory Health Departments, or, in some cases, by local government and, for imports and exports, the Australian Quarantine Inspection Service (AQIS). In New Zealand, the Code is enforced by the New Zealand Food Safety Authority (NZFSA) and Public Health Units. NZFSA and the Public Health Units also enforce the requirements for imported foods. These authorities regularly check food products for compliance with the Food Standards Code. Food contamination
In Australia Matters concerning quality issues, including the presence of foreign particles in food products should be directed to the manufacturer of the product and the Environmental Health Officer (EHO) of your local council or relevant State or Territiory Health Department. Approval of Labels
FSANZ does not provide approval of labels, or food compliance of any type. The onus is upon food companies to ensure compliance with relevant food regulations. You may wish to engage a food compliance consultant or your own legal counsel to assist with this. You can try web based searches using key words such as: food compliance' 'food consultant' or 'food law specialists' or the Yellow Pages directory.
Licences and food business permits
FSANZ does not issue permits for the operation of a food business. You will need to contact the Environmental Health Officer (EHO) of your local council for information about permits, licences, inspections etc.
