PROGRESS ON APPLICATIONS AND PROPOSALS
NOTICES.

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS - MATTERS AT FULL ASSESSMENT
The Authority has made a preliminary assessment, accepted the following applications for further consideration and will now make a full assessment. You are invited to present written submissions to the Authority on these matters, including the potential regulatory impact on consumers, industry and government, by 20 June 2001.

The Authority has prepared the following proposal and will now make a full assessment of it. You are invited to present written submissions to the Authority on this matter, including the potential regulatory impact on consumers, industry and government, by4 July 2001:

MATTERS BEFORE COUNCIL
The Authority has made recommendations to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Council that the following variations be adopted.
- Application A396 - Erythrosine in preserved cherries
- Proposal P238* - Bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) ( html ) | pdf
*Note:This matter was recommended to Council under s.37 of the ANZFA Act as a matter of urgency in order to avoid compromising the objectives set out in subsection 10(1)(a) of the Act, namely the protection of public health and safety. The Authority will conduct an inquiry into the amendments to standards resulting from this Proposal as soon as practicable.
WITHDRAWAL OF APPLICATION
- Application A403 - BHT residues in food has been withdrawn by the applicant.
ABANDONMENT OF PROPOSAL

COUNCIL DECISIONS
Under an Inter-Governmental Agreement signed by all Australian Heads of Government in early November 2000, the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Council (ANZFSC) now comprises Health Ministers from all jurisdictions in Australia (including the Commonwealth) and New Zealand as lead Ministers, with Ministers from a number of other portfolios now also represented. ANZFSC recently adopted the Authority s recommendation for:
- Application A393 - Bromo-Chloro-Dimethylhydantoin (BCDMH) as a processing aid.
OTHER MATTERS
ANZFA Standards Information Unit
To assist industry, particularly small business, understand the requirements of the newAustralia New Zealand Food Standards Codethe Authority has established a dedicated Information Unit to field enquiries and provide advice.
