NOTIFICATION CIRCULAR 11-03

This Notification Circular includes notices that are required to be given to the public, submitters and appropriate government agencies, under the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991(FSANZ Act). All references below to sections of legislation, are to the FSANZ Act unless otherwise indicated.

PROGRESS ON APPLICATIONS AND PROPOSALS
NOTICES. The notice below was published on 13 August 2003 in The Australian and The New Zealand Herald newspapers as well as on the Food Standards Australia New Zealandwebsite.
INITIAL ASSESSMENT - APPLICATIONS [s.14(1)]
FSANZ received applications for the development or variation of the following food regulatory measures; accepted the Applications after making Initial Assessments of them; will make Draft Assessments of these Applications; and invites written submissions on matters relevant to the Applications to be made to FSANZ by24 September 2003:
- Application A491–Resistant Maltodextrin as Dietary Fibre: seeks to recognise resistant maltodextrin (RMD) as a dietary fibre and to include a specific method of analysis for dietary fibre in foods containing RMD. (Received 17 January 2003).
- Application A501 – To permit the Use of Phospholipase A2 as a Processing Aid: seeks to allow the use of phospholipase A2 enzyme produced from a non-genetically modified strain of Streptomyces violaceoruberas an emulsifier. (Received 12 May 2003).
- Application A503 – Collagen as a Processing Aid for Wines: seeks to amend the wine primary production standard to permit the use of collagen as a processing aid. (Received 3 June 2003).
- Application A508 – Tall Oil Phytosterols (TOPS) in Low Fat and No Fat Milk: seeks to amend the Novel Foods Standard to include tall oil phytosterols in low fat and no fat milk. (Received 25 June 2003).
APPLICATION WITHDRAWN [s.12A(2)/s.34(3)]

Amendment 67 Published
Amendment 67 to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code was published by FSANZ on 31 July 2003. It includes amendments resulting from the following Applications and Proposal:

- Application A453 – Trehalose as a Novel Food
- Application A467 – Alpha-Amylase as a Processing Aid
