Appendix 1 – Finalised projects 1 July 2006 – 30 June 2007

Gazettal and registration on the Federal Register of Legislative Instruments of amendments to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code occurs throughout the year after the Ministerial Council notifies FSANZ that it does not need to review its decision on a Standard or a variation to a Standard; or if, after a Second Review by FSANZ, the Ministerial Council accepts or amends the Standards or variation to a Standard.   Each gazette is sequentially numbered.

Gazetted amendments to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code relating to the following Applications and Proposals:

Amendment No. 87 (3 August 2006)

Application A519 – Lipase from Penicillium roquefortii as a Processing Aid (Enzyme)

To permit the use of a new microbial source for triacylglycerol lipase sourced from Penicillium roquefortii

Application A546 – Tara Gum as a Food Additive

To permit the use of a new food additive in a variety of foods including dairy products, preserved fruits and vegetables, flour and bakery products, meat and fish products, and alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages

Application A548 – Food from Corn Rootworm-protected & Glyphosate-tolerant Corn MON 88017

To seek permission for food derived from corn genetically modified to provide resistance to rootworm and glyphosate

Application A561 – Phospholipase A1 as a Processing Aid (Enzyme)

To seek the approval for a new enzyme produced from a genetically modified strain of Aspergillus oryzae for use in cheese manufacture

Application A564 – Food derived from Insect-protected Corn Line MIR604

To seek permission for food derived from corn genetically modified to provide resistance to corn rootworm

Application A568 – Maximum Residue Limits (July, August, September 2005)

To amend maximum residue limits for a number of agricultural and veterinary chemicals

Application A563 – Medium Chain Triglycerides in Infant Formula Products

To allow medium chain triglycerides, when used as processing aids in preparations of fat soluble vitamins, to be added to infant formula or follow-on formula

Proposal P288 – Food Safety Programs for Food Service to Vulnerable Populations

To amend Standard 3.2.1 to make food safety programs mandatory in food service in which potentially hazardous food is served to vulnerable populations

Proposal P296 – Primary Production and Processing Standard for Dairy

To develop a primary production and processing standard for dairy

Proposal P302 – Minor Amendments Omnibus VI

To correct errors of minor significance or complexity (including typographical errors, inconsistencies, misspellings, grammatical errors, deletions and corrections of Tables) identified in the Code

Application A433 – Phytosterol Esters derived from Vegetable Oils in Breakfast Cereals

To permit phytosterol esters derived from vegetable oils as novel food ingredients in breakfast cereals

Application A434 – Phytosterol Esters derived from Vegetable Oils in Low-fat Milk & Yoghurt

To permit phytosterol esters derived from vegetable oils as novel food ingredients in low fat milk and low fat yoghurt

Application A470 – Formulated Beverages

To permit the addition of all vitamins and minerals to water-based non-alcoholic beverages

Application A508– Phytosterols derived from Tall Oils as Ingredients in Low-fat Milk

To include tall oil phytosterols as novel food ingredients in low-fat milk

To amend Standard 4.5.1 to correct minor errors and/or harmonise with international wine making requirements

To vary the print size requirement for signs associated with unpackaged product when declaring country of origin

To provide a clearer definition for 'liqueur', including a minimum alcohol content

Proposal P277 – Review of Processing Aids (Other than Enzymes)

To review the structure of the Processing Aids Standard and the permissions for those processing aids other than enzymes
