Primary production and processing requirements for raw milk products: Public comment invited
FSANZ has commenced an assessment of the requirements in the Food Standards Code for the sale of raw milk products in Australia (Proposal P1007).
What stage has the development of the Proposal reached?
FSANZ has produced a Discussion Paper which describes:
- the issues to be addressed by the Proposal;
- the objectives of the Proposal;
- overview of a Category Framework Approach being used to achieve the objectives;
- an overview of how we are assessing raw milk product safety issues; and
- information about the current regulations for raw milk products in Australia.
This paper is now available for public comment and input into the assessment process.
How can I make an input into the outcome?
The Discussion Paper is available from our website at www.foodstandards.gov.au/standardsdevelopment/ . We hope that individuals or organisations with an interest in this Proposal will provide information on issues raised in the paper, respond to questions where appropriate and comment on the proposed work. Issues that you raise in your submission will help to inform the way we assess this Proposal.
The deadline for submissions is 17 September 2008. Details of how to make a submission are given in the report and at the above web address.
I n accordance with the FSANZ Act we will also have another two rounds of public consultation at the First and Second Assessment stages of the Proposal. Reports will be released for public comment and this will provide interested parties further opportunity to help FSANZ to produce an outcome that will most effectively address the objectives of this Proposal.
Additionally, you can contact FSANZ, or members of the Standard Development Committee, to discuss the work being conducted on the Proposal. Members of this committee are listed on page 33 of the report.
