Regulatory decision making processes
Food Standards Australia New Zealand's (FSANZ's) regulatory processes are set out in some detail in its legislation, and some details of this will change with the new legislation.
In order to implement the requirements of the legislation and to ensure compliance with government policies in relation to regulatory decision-making FSANZ has regard to:
- The Council of Australian Government's (COAG) Principles and Guidelines for National Standard Setting and Regulatory Action by Ministerial Councils and Standards setting bodies.

- A Guide to Regulation: Office of Regulation Review

- The New Zealand Guide to Good Regulatory Practice
- Business Compliance Cost Statement ( Ministry of Economic Development, NZ )
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) ensures that its processes and decisions are consistent with its legislation, the Treaty with New Zealand, the policies list above and other international obligations, in particular the World Trade Agreements, including the Sanitary and Phyto-Sanitary (SPS) Agreement and the Technical Barriers to Trade (TBT) Agreement.
