Interested in food and food law?
Have you ever wanted to give the government advice on what goes into food and how food products should be labelled? If so, the independent agency responsible for setting food regulations for Australia and New Zealand, invites you to join the Consumer Liaison Committee.
Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) receives advice from a range of individuals and organisations, including a consumer representative on the FSANZ Board. We have a productive working relationship with consumer organisations such as Australian Consumers Association and New Zealand Consumers Institute. However, we want to provide consumers with a greater voice in our decision-making, in our consultation approaches and in developing responses to emerging food issues.
Still interested, but worried about travel or the time involved?
The Consumer Liaison Committee meets several times a year by teleconference and has one face-to-face meeting each year. All costs for participation in the teleconferences and face-to-face meetings are covered by FSANZ. In addition, the Committee members hold regular discussions via email and a special locked chat room especially for CLC members. If you were appointed to the Committee, we would provide you with the information necessary to participate in discussions. We understand that people on the Committee contribute as much and as often as their circumstances allow.
At FSANZ, we hold consumer views in high regard and believe the consumer perspective is vital to the development of food standards and regulations.
If you would like to be a part of the Consumer Liaison Committee, please submit the following:
- An electronic copy of the application cover sheet
- A brief cover letter introducing yourself and explaining your interest in food and food issues (no more than one A4 page)
- A brief statement of claims addressing the selection criteria (no more than one A4 page)
