The APEC Food Safety Cooperation Forum (FSCF) held a suite of events from 10–13 September 2014 in Beijing, China.

Events

APEC FSCF Partnership Training Institute Network (PTIN) Proficiency Testing (PT) Workshop (10–11 September 2014)
 
This event involved more than 50 participants from 16 economies and the Asia Pacific Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (APLAC).
 
Participants shared their experiences in being involved in the PT program and different aspects of PT in laboratory capacity building, noting that regulators, industry and academia all have a role to play.
 
The outcomes of the workshop will feed into laboratory quality management and help strengthen cooperation, communication and capacity building in lab proficiency between APEC member economies to build robust food safety systems.
 
APEC Wine Regulatory Forum (11–12 September 2014)
 
Government officials and industry representatives from 16 economies participated in the 4th meeting of the Wine Regulatory Forum (WRF). Key sessions of the WRF included an economy roundtable, where participants discussed recent and upcoming changes on wine regulations, wine production and importation in China, current work on export certificates and Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs), a report from the World Wine Trade Group (WWTG), engagement with Codex Committees, work on developing compendia, and a session on enhanced risk controls.

APEC High-Level Regulator Industry Dialogue on Food Safety (12 September 2014)
 
A range of senior industry and government representatives actively participated in this Dialogue, giving support to enhance public-private relationships across APEC member economies. A number of recommendations were made to foster collective government-industry action to address food safety challenges and strengthen good regulatory practices.

Special Session of the APEC FSCF – Advancing the FSCF Regulatory Cooperation Roadmaps for Export Certificates and Pesticide Maximum Residue Limits (13 September 2014)
 
Members of the APEC FSCF held a Special Session, involving a range of food safety regulators and key international stakeholders, to discuss progress with the FSCF Action Plan to Implement the APEC Regulatory Cooperation Plan, which was endorsed at the 4th APEC FSCF held in Surabaya, Indonesia (April 2013).
 
The Special Session reviewed progress on the Action Plan in two areas, namely roadmaps for Export Certificates and Pesticide Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs). Participants also discussed next steps and made suggestions for additional focus areas and further work.

The success of the 2014 APEC FSCF events was welcomed by Ministers and commended by economic leaders.
