Consumer Research on the Need for Consistency in Nutrition Information Panels

Executive summary

This quantitative study, conducted in 2003, investigated whether consistency in the format of nutrition information panels is a pivotal factor in enabling consumers to make decisions about food products. The research examined whether inconsistency in the format of the nutrition information panel impacts on consumers’ ability to compare food products and gathered information on the importance consumers place on the consistency in nutrient order, column order and other formatting attributes. This research informed FSANZ’s assessment of Application A479 - NIP Alternative Formats.
