ANZFA Welcomes Bottled Water Model Code
The Australia New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA) today welcomed a new model code for the production of bottled water.
Speaking at the launch of the Australasian Bottled Water Institute's model code, ANZFA's Acting Program Manager Food Safety, Ms Jenny Williams, congratulated the Institute for developing the Code as a good first step towards a comprehensive food safety program.
'Last year the Ministerial Council approved a number of food safety standards aimed at reducing the incidence of food poisoning. They also approved, as part of the new Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, a standard for Non-Alcoholic Beverages which includes packaged water.
'However, ANZFA's role goes beyond establishing mandatory food standards to ensure the safety of Australians and New Zealanders. We also have a role in working with industry to develop voluntary codes of practice.
'I was pleased to receive a copy of this code recently and ANZFA looks forward to working with the Bottled Water Institute in the ongoing development of the code to ensure that it meets all of ANZFA's requirements in developing food safety programs,' Ms Williams concluded.
