New appointment to ANZFA Board
The Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister for Health and Aged Care, Senator the Hon. Grant Tambling, today announced that the Hon. Rob Knowles, had been appointed as a special purpose member to the Board of the Australia New Zealand Food Authority (ANZFA).
Senator Tambling said: 'I am pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Knowles to the ANZFA Board. As a former Victorian Health Minister, his experience in public health policy will greatly assist the implementation of the new Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code.'
The ANZFA Board is responsible for developing food standards that protect public health and safety and consumers' interests in Australia and New Zealand. The Board's current priority is to advise Commonwealth, State, Territory and New Zealand Health Ministers on the make up of the new joint Food Standards Code.
'Mr Knowles has joined a highly skilled Board which includes members of world standing in science and medicine, and high level representatives from the consumer movement, the food industry, and public health.'
Mr Knowles is currently a consultant /adviser to the Macquarie Bank, the Austin Research Institute and the Victoria University of Technology.
