Imported foods

Microbiological examination of ready-to-eat foods

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ), in consultation with State, Territory and New Zealand health departments, has developed a set of microbiological criteria for ready-to-eat foods. The purpose of the Guidelines for the microbiological examination of ready-to-eat foods is to provide assistance in the interpretation of microbiological analyses of foods where no other microbiological criteria exist.

Australian Total Diet Study (ATDS)

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) monitors the food supply to ensure that existing food regulatory measures provide adequate protection of consumer health and safety. The Australian Total Diet Study (ATDS) is part of that monitoring. It was previously named the Australian Market Basket Survey (AMBS). The Australian Total Diet Study (ATDS) estimates Australian consumers' dietary exposure to a range of pesticide residues and contaminants found in the food supply. [ more... ]

Dietary Modelling

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) uses Dietary modelling  to estimate our dietary exposure to food chemicals including food additives, pesticide residues, chemical contaminants, nutrients and food ingredients. Use of chemicals in farming practice is regulated by the National Registration Authority for Agricultural and Veterinary Chemicals (NRA). Nutrition Panel Calculator (NPC)

The Nutrition Panel Calculator (NPC) has been developed to provide manufacturers with the ability to readily calculate the average nutrient content of their food products and to prepare a Nutrition Information Panel as required under Standard 1.2.8 - Nutrition Information Requirements, of the Food Standards Code.

Monitoring and evaluation

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) has responsibility for undertaking a scientific and technical evaluation of the impact of implementation of the new food regulations measures on key stakeholder groups.

FSANZ will undertake evaluation activities from January 2001 to December 2003 that will provide benchmark data to address critical data gaps and enable a full evaluation of the impact of changing key food regulations in the future. [more.. ]
