About the Nutrition Panel Calculator
FSANZ’s NPC has been provided to assist food manufacturers calculate the average nutrient content of their food products and to prepare a nutrition information panel (NIP). Standard 1.2.8 - Nutrition Information Requirements, of the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code (the Code) sets out the legal requirements concerning the provision of NIPs and other nutrition information for food that is required to be labelled under the Code.
Although FSANZ is responsible for making food standards, enforcement of those standards is the responsibility of State and Territory Government Agencies, the New Zealand Food Safety Authority, and the Australian Quarantine and Inspection Service. There are important provisions in State and Territory Food Acts, the New Zealand Food Act 1981, and the Imported Food Control Act 1992 which provide various defences for failure to comply with food standards. One defence is that of 'due diligence', which may be used where a person exercises due diligence to prevent the commission of an offence.
