Food Standards Notification Circular

This Notification Circular includes notices that are required to be given to the public, submitters and appropriate government agencies, under the Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991 (FSANZ Act).

Approval and Ministerial Council notification
FSANZ has approved draft variations arising from the following Applications. FSANZ has notified these approvals to the Australia and New Zealand Food Regulation Ministerial Council (Ministerial Council):
- Application A1041 – Food derived from SDA Soybean Line MON 87769
- Application A1046 –Food derived from Herbicide-tolerant Soybean Line DAS-68416-4
- Application A1047 – Sodium Carboxymethyl cellulose as a Food Additive in Wine
Once FSANZ has notified the Ministerial Council of its decision, the Ministerial Council has 60 days to either request FSANZ to review the approved standard or inform FSANZ that it does not intend to request a review. Gazettal – Amendment No. 125 published
Amendment No. 125 to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code was published by FSANZ on 8 September 2011 (FSC 67). It included amendments resulting from the following Applications:
- Application A1034 – Advantame as a High Intensity Sweetener
- Application A1050 – Glycerophospholipid Cholesterol Acyltransferase as a Processing Aid
After making an Administrative Assessment of the following Application, FSANZ rejected the Application as it did not meet the mandatory information requirements of Part 3 of the FSANZ Application Handbook:
- Potential Application PA1067 – Sucromalt as a Novel Food & Altrenansucrase as an Enzyme: to permit the use of Xtend™ Sucromalt for use as a novel food ingredient in a range of general purpose and special purpose foods. The Application also seeks approval for the enzyme Alternansucrase. [Received: 6 September 2011] [Applicant: Abbott Nutrition]
Amendment to Standard 1.4.2 – Maximum Residue Limits (MRLs)[Australia only]
The Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) has notified FSANZ of applications or variations to the APVMA MRL Standard that the APVMA considers will likely result in variations to Standard 1.4.2 if they are granted.

Calls for public comment – Proposed variations to Standard 1.4.2

Information Publication Scheme – Important information for applicants and submitters
Under the Information Publication Scheme all applications to change the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code, as well as submissions on applications and proposals, will be published on our website.
We will not publish any material provided in-confidence. Applications will be published when we publicly notify FSANZ’s decision after an Administrative Assessment has been completed and the application has been accepted. Submissions will be published as soon as possible after the end of the public comment period. Where large numbers of documents are involved, FSANZ will make these available on CD, rather than on the website.

Food Regulation Secretariat
