This Notification Circular includes notices that are required to be given to the public, submitters and appropriate government agencies, under the  Food Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991(FSANZ Act).   All references below to sections of legislation, are to the FSANZ Act unless otherwise indicated.

Assessment – Applications[s.31]

FSANZ has assessed and prepared draft food regulatory measures for the following Application; will further consider the drafts; and invites written submissions for the purpose of either approving, amending or rejecting the draft food regulatory measureby 6pm (Canberra time)

  •   Application A1019 – Exclusive Use of Phytosterol Esters in Reduced Fat Cheese Products

MAJOR PROCEDURE

1st Assessment – Proposals[s.72]

FSANZ has assessed the following Proposal; will further consider it; and invites written submissions for the purpose of preparing a draft food regulatory measureby 6pm (Canberra time) 4 November 2009:

  • Proposal P1005 – Primary Production &Processing Standard for Meat & Meat Products:   to examine the meat supply chain in Australia and develop a national food safety standard covering meat and meat products from farmed cattle, pigs, sheep and goats, harvested goats and rendered products. Farmed minor meat species, emu/ostrich meat and wild game animals will be addressed later.   [Australia only]

DRAFT ASSESSMENT

FSANZ has prepared draft food regulatory measures for the following Proposal; will make a Final Assessment in relation to the drafts; and invites written submissions for the purpose of making a Final Assessmentby 6pm (Canberra time) 4 November 2009:

  • Proposal P301 – Primary Production & Processing Standard for Egg & Egg Products:   to develop an Australia only primary production and processing Standard to provide mandatory, nationally-consistent food safety measures that will apply to egg production and processing of egg products   [Australia only]

GAZETTAL – Amendment 112 Published

Amendment No. 112 to the Australia New Zealand Food Standards Code was published by FSANZ on 17 September 2009 (FSC 54).   It included amendments resulting from the following Applications:

REVIEW OF COST RECOVERY ARRANGEMENTS

FSANZ has reviewed its cost recovery arrangements and is calling for public comment on a Consultation Paper to assist FSANZ in further considering a number of issues, with a view to amending the FSANZ Regulations.  Information providing details of potential costs and benefits of the proposed change to the Code from stakeholders is highly desirable.   Written submissions are we lcomed by 6pm (Canberra time) 4 November 2009.
