This Notification Circular includes notices that are required to be given to the public, submitters and appropriate government agencies, under theFood Standards Australia New Zealand Act 1991(FSANZ Act).   All references below to sections of legislation, are to the FSANZ Act unless otherwise indicated.

NEW APPLICATIONS (Public comment is NOT being sought)

FSANZ has received the following Applications and placed them on the FSANZ Food Standards Development Work Plan:  

  • Application A599 – Maximum Residue Limits (January, February, March 2007):   to amend maximum residue limits for a number of agricultural and veterinary chemicals.#   [Received 30 January 2007]
  •  Application A601 – Definition of ‘Wine-based Beverage’:   to prescribe a definition for ‘wine-based beverage’ and to delete the current definition for ‘wine product’ in Standard 2.7.4.   [Received 20 February 2007]
  • Application A602 – Extraneous Residue Limit in Honey (Paradichlorobenzene):   To approve an extraneous residue limit for paradichlorobenzene in honey for 5 years.#   [Received 14 March 2007]

INITIAL ASSESSMENT – APPLICATIONS [s.14(1)]

FSANZ has received Applications for the development or variation of the following food regulatory measures; accepted the Applications after making an Initial Assessment of them; will make Draft Assessments of these Applications; and invites written submissions on matters relevant to the Applications to be made to FSANZ by 6pm (Canberra time) 16 May 2007:

  • Application A594Addition of Lutein as a Nutritive Substance in Infant Formula:   to seek permission for the addition of lutein as a nutritive substance in infant formula.   [Received 13 December 2006]
  •  Application A597Addition of Lutein to Formulated Supplementary Foods for YoungChildren:   to seek permission for the addition of lutein as a nutritive substance in formulated supplementary foods for young children.   [Received 2 January 2007]

Preliminary Final Assessment

FSANZ has prepared a draft food regulatory measure for the following Proposal; will make a Final Assessment in relation to the draft; and invites written submissions for the purpose of making a Final Assessment by 6pm (Canberra time) 16 May 2007.

  •  Proposal P293 – Nutrition Health & Related Claims:  to implement the Ministerial Council’s Policy Guideline for the development of the regulatory framework for the management of nutrition, health and related claims.  

APPLICATION WITHDRAWN [s.12A(2)]

The following Application has been withdrawn by the Applicant:

  •  Application A542 – Natamycin, Extension of Use as a Food Additive

# These matters relate to ‘Australia only’ standards that are not part of the joint regulatory arrangements with New Zealand.   However, food from Australia complying with these standards may be supplied in New Zealand.   Anyone may provide submissions in relation to these matters, if the matter is open for public comment.
