Foods and ingredients to avoid if you are allergic to sesame:

  • Aqua Libra
  • Benne
  • Benniseed
  • Gingelly seeds
  • Gomasio or gomashio
  • Halva or halva
  • Hummus
  • Pasteli
  • Sesame
  • Sesame seed
  • Sesamol
  • Sesomolina
  • Sim sim
  • Tahini or tahina
  • Til

Check labels on the following foods to see if they contain sesame and if they do, avoid them:

  • Asian foods
  • Bakery goods (e.g. bread, buns, biscuits)
  • Breakfast cereals or muesli
  • Crackers
  • Dips
  • Dressings
  • Herbs
  • Marinades
  • Middle Eastern foods
  • Muesli bars
  • Nutritional snacks
  • Pretzels
  • Salads
  • Spices
  • Spreads
  • Vegetarian food

Any food containing sesame or sesame derivatives must be avoided (e.g. sesame flour, sesame oil, sesame seed paste).

Bakery goods (especially unpackaged items) have a high potential for cross contamination with sesame seeds.

This is not a complete or comprehensive list of ingredients to avoid but is intended to provide helpful information for people living with sesame allergy. It is NOT meant to replace medical advice given by your doctor.
