SUMMARY OF KEY OUTCOMES

Application A424 – Fortification of Foods with Calcium (Second Review)
The Board considered the Second Review Report for an application which seeks to permit the voluntary addition of calcium to fruit and vegetable juices/drinks, soups and savoury biscuits. The Ministerial Council requested a Second Review on 19 May 2005. The Board re-affirmed its decision made at First Review, and the Board’s decision has been notified to Ministers.

Application A525 – Food derived from Glyphosate-Tolerant Sugar Beet H7-1 (First Review) 

The Board considered the First Review Report for an application that seeks to approve food derived from glyphosate-tolerant sugarbeet line H7-1, for which the Ministerial Council requested a First Review on 15 July 2005. The Board re-affirmed its decision made at Final Assessment, and the Board’s decision has been notified to Ministers.

Application A543 – Food derived from Insect-Protected Glufosinate Ammonium-Tolerant Corn Line 59122-7 (First Review)
The Board considered the First Review Report for an application that seeks to approve food derived from insect-protected glufosinate ammonium-tolerant corn line DAS59122-7, for which the Council requested a First Review on 15 September 2005. The Board re-affirmed its decision made at Final Assessment. The Board’s decision has been notified to Ministers.

Application A516 – Lipase from  Candida Rugosa  as a Processing Aid (Enzyme) (Final Assessment)
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for an application that seeks to approve a new microbial source for triacylglycerol lipase sourced from  Candida rugosa. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and approved the new microbial source. The Board’s decision has been notified to Ministers.

Application A533 – Food derived from Glufosinate-Ammonium-Tolerant Cotton Line Ll25 (Final Assessment) 
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for an application that seeks approval for food derived from genetically modified cotton line LL25. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and approved genetically modified cotton for use in food. The Board’s decision has been notified to Ministers.

Application A537 – Reduction in the Energy Factor for Maltitol (Final Assessment)
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for an application seeks to reduce the energy factor assigned to maltitol in the Code, from 16 kJ/g to 11.6 kJ/g. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and approved the new energy factor. The decision has been notified to Ministers.

Application A544 – Ice Structuring Protein as a Processing Aid for Ice Cream and Edible Ices (Final Assessment)
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for an application that seeks to permit the use of an ice-structuring protein for the manufacture of ice cream and edible ices. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and approved the use of the protein. This decision has been notified to Ministers.

Application A550 – Maximum Residue Limits – Sulphaquinoxaline (Antibiotic) (Final Assessment)
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for an application that seeks to vary the maximum residue limits for the antibiotic Sulphaquinoxaline in poultry meat and poultry offal. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and approved the maximum residue limits. This decision has been notified to Ministers.

Application A557 – Maximum Residue Limits – Lasalocid (Antibiotic) (Final Assessment)
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for an application that seeks the establishment of maximum residue limits, for the antibiotic Lasalocid in poultry meat and poultry offal. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and approved the maximum residue limits. This decision has been notified to Ministers.

Application A558 – Maximum Residue Limits (Antibiotics) (Final Assessment)
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for an application that seeks to vary the maximum residue limits for various antibiotics in eggs. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and approved the maximum residue limits. This decision has been notified to Ministers.

Proposal P289 – Food Safety Programs for the Producers of Manufactured & Fermented Meats (Final Assessment)
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for a proposal that has been prepared in response to a decision of the Ministerial Council to mandate food safety management systems for the producers of manufactured and fermented meats. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and approved the amendments to the Code. This decision has been notified to Ministers.

Proposal P292 – Country of Origin Labelling of Food (Final Assessment)
The Board considered the Final Assessment Report for a proposal that reviews the current provisions regarding mandatory country of origin labelling of food. The Board agreed to the Final Assessment Report and approved the amendments to the Code. This decision has been notified to Ministers.

Application A517 – Lipase from  Mucor Javanicus  as a Processing Aid (Enzyme) (Draft Assessment)
The Board considered the Draft Assessment Report for an application which seeks permission for the use of a new microbial source for triacylglycerol lipase sourced from Mucor javanicus. The Board agreed to the Draft Assessment Report and the draft variations to the Code to allow the new microbial source. The Report will be released in the near future for public consultation, prior to further consideration by the Board.

Proposal P291 – Review of Novel Foods Standard (Draft Assessment)
The Board considered the Draft Assessment Report for a proposal which reviews the current novel foods Standard having regard to the policy guidance received from the Ministerial Council in December 2003. The Board agreed to the Draft Assessment Report and agreed to the draft variations to the Novel Foods Standard. The Report will be released in the near future for public consultation, prior to further consideration by the Board.
